About
Non-violent communication, empathetic teamwork, and proactive conflict management are important components of my work. And: I can also drive a nail into the wall, rappel down a skyscraper, or clean out the stable – if the concept demands it.
And here is a quote from Kalle Lasn (Adbuster Media Foundation) that sums up my self-image as a designer:
Where to?
Where I'm going:
»I am always looking for new responsible and challenging tasks where I can fully utilize my skills.«
What may sound like a clichéd job application statement is actually true for me. Because ultimately, I pursue a high goal with all the tasks I take on: I want to change the world a little – and in the »right« direction. Even if that direction is not always easy to find or requires some detours.
Do you have a map or a compass to spare? Do you see the potential for me to contribute to solving social and political issues in your project? Then write to me!
Do you represent an exhibition agency, an NGO, or a sustainable business? Then read this blog post to see what I can do for you.
Where?
Where I am:
In recent years, I have been able to realize two personal dreams: traveling through New Zealand in a shabby hippie van – and working for Greenpeace. Both certainly consumed resources – but they also significantly contributed to my growth.
My responsibilities at Greenpeace included classic online marketing and developing web campaigns. I was also involved in the conception and implementation of a street campaign to protect the Sumatran tiger and the Indonesian rainforest, and I supervised it on the ground.
Currently, I am working on various exhibition and media projects in the Munich area. Apart from that, an important mission is to enjoy the beauty of the Bavarian Alps through climbing, mountaineering, and biking. The modern term is »work-life balance« – for me, it’s more of a challenge to enjoy life while thousands of refugees are drowning in the Mediterranean.
Where from?
Where I come from:
The foundation of my current work
I was born in 1986 in Lower Bavaria, growing up on a historic four-sided farm. Together with my brother, I founded a »Greenteam« as a child, inspiring our friends about the importance of environmental protection. As a teenager, I expressed my commitment in the student council and youth press. I was, among other things, a long-time editor-in-chief of our school newspaper and later the founder (editor-in-charge) of a regional, cross-school magazine for students. From that time, I gained valuable experience in fundraising, media communication, and political advocacy (e.g., with the Bavarian Ministry of Education).
Studies: Communication, Organization, Design
After high school, I initially explored communication sciences (LMU Munich), economics (Fernuni Hagen), and marine biology (diving assistant in Tenerife). In 2007, I found a study program that allowed me to combine my conceptual and organizational strengths with my creativity. In the dual media design program at DHBW Ravensburg, I faced the challenge of aligning my professional work with the eco-socially engaged outdoor outfitter VAUDE Sport (Marketing Department) with my studies. Through this role, I gained numerous insights into the PR world, campaign work, and project organization.
Shaping my role as a designer
During my studies, I explored how designers in a consumer-oriented information society can live up to their significant responsibility. Role models in the design world like Kalle Lasn and Tibor Kalman influenced my academic work. My colleague Hanna Martus also shaped my design role with her outstanding thesis, »BEWUSST-SIGN«.
My path to project management
As with my high school graduation, I completed my media design studies in 2010 among the top of my class. Shortly thereafter, I founded my own company, »DER MEDIENBAYER,« with a focus on exhibition design. Since then, alongside web and print projects, I have designed museums and interactive exhibits in Berlin, Graz, Hamburg, Vienna, and Munich. I gained valuable insights into the organization of large projects (e.g., DFB Football Museum, total budget approx. EUR 36 million).
My most formative project to date has been my work for the State Museum of Egyptian Art Munich. In 2012 and 2013, I was responsible for the entire media equipment and network infrastructure of the museum – from planning, cost estimation, and tenders (according to VOB and VOL) to construction management and invoice verification. During the project, I worked as an authorized project manager with around 25 employees from the executing companies and my own assistant, expanding my teamwork and leadership skills.
